About Fair Payment

Fair Payment shows how quickly the UK's large companies pay their suppliers, company by company, using the reports they file with the government.

Late payment moves money from small firms to large ones. A supplier waiting 60 days for a 30-day invoice is lending its customer that money for free. Large companies have had to publish their payment record since 2017, but the reports sit one at a time on a government service that is hard to compare across. We put all 114,746 of them together, so anyone can see who pays on time and who does not, and how that has changed.

Independent

Fair Payment is an independent publication. It is not affiliated with Build UK, the former National Specialist Contractors' Council (NSCC), the NSCC's Fair Payment Campaign, the Office of the Small Business Commissioner or its Fair Payment Code, or any government department.

This web address was home to the NSCC's Fair Payment Campaign, which campaigned for prompt payment and an end to retentions in construction. The NSCC later became part of Build UK and the campaign site closed. None of the campaign's material is reproduced here. We chose this address because the cause is the same one the data now measures.

What we publish

The figures are exactly what each company filed. We do not rate companies, take payment to change or remove a listing, or carry advertising. The plain-English summary on each company page is written automatically from that company's own figures and nothing else. How we use the data explains the few rules we apply, such as leaving obviously mistyped figures out of the tables.

Who runs it

Fair Payment is published by Domain Farm Ltd, a UK company.
